Loading Your Wallet

General

To get started using Dolomite, you'll need an Ethereum wallet. A wallet is how you get access to your Ether (ETH) and your ERC20 tokens. Dolomite is a decentralized exchange, so as you trade, your tokens and Ether never leave your wallet and your wallet's information never leaves your computer. The recommended way to load your wallet is to use a wallet bridge such as MetaMask, Trezor, or Ledger. These keep your wallet's information completely separate from Dolomite, so in the case that our servers or your computer is compromised your assets remain safe. MetaMask is an extension you can get for all common desktop web browsers, and Trezor and Ledger are hardware wallets you can purchase online.

The alternative to a wallet bridge is using your wallet's keystore file, mnemonic phrase, or private key. When loaded, this information is only ever stored in your current browser session, and is never on any central server or transmitted on your network. When you close the window the stored wallet information is safely forgotten. This means you will need to load your wallet the next time you open Dolomite, but also prevents sensitive data from being stored anywhere hackers could get their hands (or keyboards) on it.

See below for more information on each wallet loading method

MetaMask

MetaMask is the leading browser-based wallet bridge. It keeps your wallet information separate from any online cryptocurrency applications you use so that your sensitive information is never exposed. To use it, follow these steps (if you already have MetaMask set up, skip to step 4):

1. Add MetaMask to your browser

You can find links to the extension on their site here: https://metamask.io/ You can also get more information about MetaMask here: https://metamask.io/#how-it-works

2. Create your account with MetaMask

You can find links to the extension on their site here: https://metamask.io/ You can also get more information about MetaMask here: https://metamask.io/#how-it-works

3. Import an existing wallet

Click the button in the upper right with the two arrows in a circle around the figure. From the dropdown menu, choose "import wallet". Choose either private key or JSON file (keystore file), depending on which you have available for your wallet. If its your private key, type it into the field. If you have your keystore file, load that and type in the password. Then press import. Congratulations! MetaMask is now setup with your wallet.

4. Connect MetaMask to Dolomite

Click on the button in the upper right that says "load wallet". Click on the tab on the left that says "MetaMask", then click "Connect MetaMask". Click the MetaMask icon in the upper right to make sure you're logged in, and if not click the MetaMask extension and type in your password. Then select "connect". Congratulations, you've loaded your wallet onto Dolomite and you're ready to trade and manage your portfolio!

Keystore

A wallet keystore file is a file on your computer that contains all your wallet's information, generally secured with a password. It is not the recommended way to load your wallet because in the case that our servers or your computer has been compromised, your sensitive wallet data could be exposed. It is recommended you use a wallet bridge such as MetaMask, Ledger, or Trezor. To load your wallet on Dolomite using your keystore file, use the following steps:

1. Click the "Load Wallet" button in the upper right on the exchange or portfolio

2. Select the "Keystore File" tab on the left of the window that comes up

3. Drag your keystore file onto the window or click the "browse" button and select the file from your computer

4. Type in the password for your keystore file and click load

Mnemonic

A mnemonic phrase is a series of words (most commonly 12) that can be used to regenerate your wallet's information. It is not the recommended way to load your wallet because in the case that our servers or your computer has been compromised, your sensitive wallet data could be exposed. It is recommended you use a wallet bridge such as MetaMask, Ledger, or Trezor. To load your wallet on Dolomite using your mnemonic phrase, use the following steps:

1. Click the "Load Wallet" button in the upper right on the exchange or portfolio

2. Select the "Mnemonic Phrase" tab on the left of the window that comes up

3. Enter your mnemonic phrase and a password if one was used when creating the wallet

4. Click load and you're done!

Private Key

A private key is a string of letters and numbers that is used to sign transactions done from your wallet. It can be used to generate the rest of your wallet data. It is not the recommended way to load your wallet because in the case that our servers or your computer has been compromised, your sensitive wallet data could be exposed. It is recommended you use a wallet bridge such as MetaMask, Ledger, or Trezor. To load your wallet on Dolomite using your private key, use the following steps:

1. Click the "Load Wallet" button in the upper right on the exchange or portfolio

2. Select the "Private Key" tab on the left of the window that comes up

3. Enter your private key

It is recommended you don't copy your private key to your clipboard since your clipboard can be accessed by other programs on your computer as well as other browser tabs. It is instead recommended that you type in your private key if you choose to use this loading method.

4. Click load and you're done!

View Only

View only mode allows you to view all the information about your portfolio without ever needing to load your wallet onto Dolomite. The downside is that you can't send any tokens or trade while in view only mode. To load your portfolio info in view only mode, use the following steps:

1. Click the "Load Wallet" button in the upper right on the exchange or portfolio

2. Select the "Watch Only" tab on the left of the window that comes up

3. Enter your Ethereum wallet address

4. Click load and you're done!

Create Wallet

If you don't already have a wallet or would like to have a new one, Dolomite gives you the ability to create a new Ethereum wallet. You will be given a keystore file and mnemonic phrase for the new wallet after it's created, and you can load that onto Dolomite to use right away. To create a new wallet, use the following steps:

1. Click the "Load Wallet" button in the upper right on the exchange or portfolio

2. Select the "Create" tab on the left of the window that comes up

3. Enter a password to secure the account with, and click "create"

4. Record the 12 words shown on the following page, then click next

The order of the words matters, so make sure to record them in the order shown. These words are the mnemonic phrase for your wallet, and will be the only way to recover your wallet if you lose the keystore file

5. Confirm that you recorded the 12 words by selecting them in the correct order, then click next

6. Your keystore file will start downloading, and your new wallet address is shown

Disconnect Wallet

If you're done using Dolomite for the day, you can close the window and none of your information will be stored. You can also manually disconnect your wallet using the following steps:

1. Click the button in the upper right of the exchange or portfolio that shows your wallet address

2. Click the "Log Out" button to disconnect your wallet but keep the information cached for quick loading later, or click "Remove Wallet" to completely remove your wallet information from Dolomite

3. Your wallet is now disconnected!

Dolomite never stores any of your sensitive wallet data on our servers, so closing the window or disconnecting your wallet manually will remove any information loaded into the browser and keep your information safe.
